About Toto

The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. Taking their name from the Latin word which means "all encompassing," the group was determined to explore all styles of music.

The third album by Toto, Turn Back, was an unfulfilling success in 1981. However, they bounced back with their fourth album, Isolation, which contained two hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour made them a household brand across the globe.

After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in the year 1986. The album is an departure from the ballads on previous albums, and also features some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.

During the recording process of the fifth album, the group loses its manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with a different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, replaces Fergie Frederiksen as lead singer. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a huge tour around the world. After a few months in Europe they head to Japan where the shows are sold out. After a short hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album entitled Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's performance in Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup is completed by drummer Lenny Castro, 스포츠토토 bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

It was the first time in 31 years that all Toto's original members performed together. The original members were joined by keyboardist Greg Tambu who filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate who filled in for Shem von Schroeck.
